Urban nature survives because people show up for it
Wetlands, dunes and remnant patches sit inside a city of five million people. Keeping them alive takes hands on the ground, most of them not on anyone’s payroll.
Small groups, real tasks, ordinary weather
Ours is a small volunteer programme, and we say so. What we run is hands-on and steady: clearing invasive alien plants, monitoring species, planting indigenous stock, maintaining paths and helping at events. Opportunities are usually during the week, and often outdoors in whatever the Cape decides to do that day.
What to bring
Closed shoes, a hat, water and a willingness to get dirty. No experience is needed.
Who keeps coming back
Twenty-five years of this work has taught us that the people who keep coming back are the ones who live near the site, and that is the relationship we are really trying to build.
Two ways to give time
As an individual
Register your interest in volunteering with Nature Connect. We’ll add you to our volunteer mailing list and contact you when opportunities become available in your area.
As a company
Team days work best when they are planned around what a site actually needs that season, so talk to us early.
